Brandon Lee Photos of the Day 2

>> October 16, 2008

Update:
I changed the original photos here to make this blog safe for work. But you can see totally naked photos of Brandon Lee here. And one of Brandon Lee's gay porn videos here.

Original post: The first time I saw these photos back in the 1990s, I was like "OMG. Who is that really cute Asian boy? I'd like to do him."

Though he was already legal at that time, I must admit that I felt somewhat guilty fantasizing about him because he looked so young and so innocent. I also felt this way when I first saw a photo of Brent Corrigan.

Anyways, Brandon's very innocent look is the main reason why I kinda prefer his older, mature version because you can dream about fucking and sucking him without feeling like a dirty old man. More photos below.

Hookonline: Interview With Brandon Lee

>> October 12, 2008

One of my goals in coming up with this blog is to collect the articles written about our Asian gay porn idol. Here's an interview with Brandon by Hawk Kinkaid which was originally published at hookonline:

The Myth That Is : An Interview with Brandon Lee
By Hawk Kinkaid

HOOK: How was your dinner with your family? Do they know about you?

Brandon Lee: Of course. They really don’t care. I have a pretty good family.

HOOK: Have they ever seen any of your videos?

BL: No, absolutely not.

HOOK: Do you keep your personal life secretive on purpose? How do you decide what to share and what not to share with people about your work?

BL: Yeah, I try to keep it pretty quiet. I like to keep ‘em guessing. They just know I do something secretive. They don’t pry too much. If someone comes up and asks me questions, I’ll answer that. As far as sending out a press release or an autobiography, that is not something I would do. I would guess a biography has been written about me. There was a biography about me in this book called Porn Studies, “The Resurrection of Brandon Lee: The Making of a Gay Asian-American Porn Star.” It was awfully flattering. Now and then I have to press ‘Deflate.’ That happens a lot in porn, I think. I just remind myself I am just a regular person.

HOOK: What is the weirdest thing someone said to you about your career?

BL: Where did you learn how to speak English. In the school systems, I think. I get some pretty racist stereotypes.

HOOK: Like?

BL: In the Porn Studies chapter, it says I left my parents’ Chinese food delivery store to pursue a career in the industry, which is false. It is very very false that I was discovered delivering Thai food and the director asked to see my egg roll.

HOOK: And it is not true?

BL: Not in the least.

HOOK: So what is the true story?

BL: I was 17 and at a club where the walls were like Teflon, where nothing can stick to them. They were so greased up because Chi Chi [LaRue] was filming there. I was cruising. I was out on the prowl at the peak of my sexuality.

HOOK: At 17?

BL: I was just hanging out. She was filing there and I told her I am not supposed to be there right now. I told her I would call her when I turned 18. And when I turned 18, I did call her.

HOOK: What made you all her instead of something else?

BL: I always had an interest in doing it. I have seen some bad porn, and I thought I could may be make a good one that people would like. I guess people have.

HOOK: Which brings me back to what facilitates your choices in what you tell people?

BL: If someone asks me questions, I try and be quick and witty enough to answer. I’ll tell anything. Sometimes I tell a little too much.

HOOK: When you were doing porn, did you also begin escorting? A lot of men in the business escort on the side to support themselves (since porn doesn’t generate a lot of money), so do you think escorting is looked down on in the porn world? I know of a few guys doing porn that don’t escort – do they get treated any differently?

BL: I did not escort. I worked in a bookstore for a brief moment, and then from there, when I left the industry, I moved to Florida and worked in a hotel and assistant to the GM. Then, I left that and went back to California. I started thinking maybe it’s time to explore my full capacity, so I enlisted in the Navy.

HOOK: Did they ask about your history?

BL: It’s the new navy now. They could care less about your personal life. They just want to get the job done. It was a lot of work: a lot of emotional trials, physical trials; being degraded on a consistent basis; having to answer up to shitheads. It’s stuff like that. It was pretty bad. It was something I am glad I did. I was in there for three years.

HOOK: Did they know you were gay?

BL: Yeah. (Laughs) There were times when they were like What the fuck? I played it up. I always kept ‘em guessing. They thought I was in love with my lab partner, but she was actually my fag hag.

HOOK: What about sex in the Navy?

BL: Some of the best ever, I have to say. I was stationed on a marine base. There was a lot of action there. Every man was helping each other out.

HOOK: After the Navy, you returned to porn?

BL: Immediately. I was in San Diego at the time. Going through my old address book, [I thought], “Why don’t I send Chi Chi a little email?” She asked me to come in and work the site—and at that moment—she said, “I want to sign you on the company and be an exclusive.”

HOOK: Is this a full-time gig for you know?

BL: Pretty much because a lot of the in front of the camera stuff I do, and I do a lot of scoring on a bunch of films.

HOOK: You’re a musician as well?

BL: I am Asian. I do have to live up to that stereotype. I have scored four films—all porn. The first was Chain of Command for Unzipped Video and then simultaneously, I was working on my own film Wicked. Then I was handed Service for Ken (Unzipped) and then scored Little Brother’s Big Secret for All Worlds.

HOOK: What’s your goal with your music?

BL: To be recognized as the Danny Elfman of the adult industry—somewhat like Sharon Kane.

HOOK: How did porn change the way you see yourself?

BL: I take myself a little less seriously now. When you are kinda seeing yourself in compromising positions…on the other hand, when it comes to being out in public, I take myself more seriously. People just automatically think that because I am of a certain profession, they are obligated to catch or cop a feel. Sorry, doesn’t work like that. Sometimes, it is good and sometimes, it is bad.

HOOK: When you are doing porn, how do many people perceive escorting?

BL: A lot of people do escort and I don’t condemn it. It’s probably only here [in the US] do we look down on that the same. In Europe, it is just a given. It is part of everyday life. I really think that a lot of the people in the industry don’t condemn it.

HOOK: Admittedly, it is rare to find Asian-American pornstars in the US. Do you feel intimidated or angry at the lack of diversity in porn? Or do you feel there is a lack of diversity?

BL: Not at all. I really don’t think there is a lack of diversity with Rascal, Channel One, Unzipped striving for diversity. It is a good thing: everyone for everyone. Sex is sex.

HOOK: Do you feel doing the porn work is similar to the 9-to-5 gig?

BL: Frankly, I find that the work I do in the adult industry is more relaxed and I highly enjoy it. I greatly enjoy the people I work with. I missed working with Chi Chi for quite a while. She is extremely intelligent.

HOOK: The one comment I have seen time and time again is about your 10-inch springroll. Do comments like that bug you? Or do you kinda dig it?

BL: I dig it. Let me press that deflate button on my head. Thank you.

HOOK: What is your audience like? Have you met them? Do they introduce themselves to you?

BL: Some have been very nice and very cordial and some of have been very scary. The ones that are respectful understand I am just a normal human being and of a certain profession and approach me just like anyone out at a club. And there are those think of me as a piece of meat…and it comes with the territory. I usually say thanks and if they continue, I smile and eventually say, “You know what? Go away.” I hate being bitchy, but sometimes you just have to. For example, I wanted to go to the Volcano Party (Rob Remier and I). He and I went together and I was approached by this one person who slipped me a key and said, “Come on up.” So I gave it to Rob and throughout the weekend, this guy kept coming up to me and said, “Why aren’t you coming up? Why aren’t you coming up?” I finally had to come up with a lie and say, “I am committed to someone.” But I try and feel the person out. As far as divulging my real name, I don’t feel comfortable doing that unless I am gonna engage in a little sexual activity .But usually, I keep things pretty private. As far as asking what I do in my free time, I got my degree in Advanced Avionics..and so on.

HOOK: What about dating?

BL: Dating has been weird. For example, I have been seeing someone for a short time, say three weeks, which constitutes a year, right? And we had a conversation last night and he was like, “Why can’t you work in Wal-mart.?” Wal-mart is not my thing. And the one [guy] prior to that was the same way. He said to me, “I just wish I could date someone normal.” I am very upfront about who I am in respect to relationships. Usually I meet guys out at the bars and there have been those who knew who I was. Once they overcame their starstuck-ness, it was cool. A lot of people have expected me to give up my career for them, and that is where it just doesn’t work.

HOOK: Do you find a lot of men who are working in the industry?

BL: As far as dating within the industry. I know people who do and those who don’t, and those who have given up their career for another person. I wish them all the best. It has worked for Jeremy Jordan and Jason Hawke [both being in the industry]. It just depends on people’s chemistry.

HOOK: Finally, since every gay guy and his brother are trying to push their way into porn, do you have 3 tips that might help people work smarter in the business (escorting or porn)?

BL: Don’t expect overnight success. Don’t eat carbs. The prima donna thing is not cute: retain your humility.

Some Facts About Brandon Lee

If you are wondering about Brandon's background, here's some information about him [via wikipedia]:

Brandon Lee (born March 18, 1979), is the stage name of a gay Asian American pornographic actor. He took his stage name from Brandon Lee, the deceased son of martial arts actor Bruce Lee. Brandon Lee, however, is of Chinese-Filipino descent. Lee also performed under the name Sean Martinez early in his career.

Lee appeared in pornographic movies exclusively as a top, until 2005.

Adult film career
He was introduced to the porn industry by porn movie director Chi Chi LaRue who met him at a Los Angeles gay bath house. LaRue introduced him to Catalina Video who signed him to a contract. Brandon was only 18 when he got into the business. His debut video was Asian Persuasion. Although LaRue didn't make any films with Brandon at first, LaRue eventually directed him in Fortune Nookie.

Brandon Lee made seven videos for Catalina Video in 1997 and 1998, and then dropped out of the adult business, going into the military.

After leaving the military, he returned in, Wicked, released in 2005, Lee takes the bottom role for the first time on video. He lives in Long Beach, California.

Personal life
He lived for a time in Miami, Florida where he worked in a hotel, later enlisting in the United States Navy. After serving a tour of duty in Iraq, he left the Navy and returned to porn in 2005.

An analysis of Lee's work and his place in the gay porn industry, written by Nguyen Tan Hoang, appears in a book called Porn Studies (Linda Williams, Duke University Press). The essay is entitled "The Resurrection of Brandon Lee: The Making of a Gay Asian-American Porn Star". This essay debunks the myth that he left his parents’ Chinese food delivery store to pursue a career in the industry. According to this apocryphal story, he was discovered delivering food and the director asked to "see his egg roll".

Lee also writes musical scores for porn movies.

Assault
On September 9, 2006, Brandon was assaulted in Scottsdale, AZ while on his way home from work. He was returning home from performing on stage in Nearly Naked Theatre's production of the play Take Me Out, in which he played the role of Japanese pitcher Takeshi Kawabata. After stopping at a nearby restaurant, he was followed by a vehicle out of the parking lot. Lee eventually drove off the shoulder of the road, where he was dragged out of his 2006 Toyota Tacoma. He was beaten unconscious, his vehicle set ablaze, and awoke on a paramedic gurney. He was then taken to Scottsdale Memorial hospital, where no internal injuries or broken bones were found. He was released the following morning, and there were no leads on the four suspects. [1]

Sexual Racism in the Gay Porn Industry

>> September 14, 2008

Here's a very interesting article that discusses sexual racism in porn. I'm not sure who the author is but this article is taken from this site.

The Need for Brandon Lee: Sexual Racism and the Importance of Gay Porn

The porn industry has received criticism from feminists and racial activists for what they perceive as the proliferation of stereotypes in the media that is produced. What they are acknowledging is that fact that porn, like any other kind of media, serves to socialize its viewers to gender and racial roles.

For a gay, lesbian, or bisexual person, self-identity is very much intertwined with the concept of sexuality. For them, the old gender roles espoused by a heterosexual-dominated society do not seem to apply. However, compromises between the socialization imposed by popular heterosexual society and the new sexual identities have created further self-identifiers such as “butch”, “femme”, “top”, and “bottom”. All of these are reflections of the traditional gender roles of masculinity and femininity in the homosexual mirror.

Pornography is an essential source of socialization for the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (lgbt) community. Unable to inherit the cultural capital of their heterosexual predecessors, the lgbt community has looked towards alternative sources, such as gay-centric media, observance of other members of the community, and comradeship with experienced members of the community.

For the purposes of this analysis, only the gay male community will be analyzed, and gay pornography will be used as the source of the sample. The lack of images catering to the gay community in mainstream media has created an even greater need for gay-centric media. It is only recently that there has been a prevalence of gay-centric media publications and icons in mainstream media.

Before the prevalence of such images, pornography was essential in creating a “popular memory” for the gay community. (Burger 1995, pg 3) As an underground industry, pornography grew as the demand for it grew. It is no coincidence that gay pornography gained its momentum after the 1969 Stonewall riots, and with the gay liberation movement.

Movie theatres which showed these “gay films” were notorious as gathering places for these gay men. Video-tape technology and the rise of the mail-order industry allowed for the more private viewing of such films in the privacy of people’s homes. For many men still trying to come to terms with their own sexuality, gay pornography serves as a form of anticipatory socialization, teaching the skills and knowledge needed once the male assumes the new sexuality.

However, as anti-pornography advocates are keen to point out, there is a lack of “media watchdogs” to regulate the images and portrayals shown in these films, which may or may not be accurate. Most films are created not for their message or positive images, but for the pleasure of the target audience, which in turn would translate into greater revenues for the film studios. Unfortunately, this audience tends to be gay white males.

The images portrayed in gay pornography have helped reconcile the gender roles socialized by heterosexual society. In a gay porn film, it is common to see dominant and submissive figures.

Most of the time, the “dominant” and “submissive” roles will be conveyed through characteristics such as masculinity and femininity. As in heterosexual porn, the masculine male is portrayed as the more desirable of the two. In the most definite act of gay sex, anal intercourse, the roles of “top” and “bottom” reflect the traditional male/female roles in heterosexual intercourse. Traditionally, the “top” is usually the partner with the more “masculine” characteristics, and assumes the “male” role of the penetrator, while the less “masculine” partner remains passive, assuming the “female” role and “bottoming” for the “top”.

Film studios go through great pains to convey these images in their films, sometimes even employing straight males to assume the roles of these “masculine” males who epitomize the gay male ideal, in essence “fooling” the gay viewer to the sexuality of the individuals. Such straight actors are called “gay-for-pay” in the industry, and many of them have carved out huge careers in the gay porn industry despite their sexuality.

Despite a growing visibility of non-white gay males, the domestic gay porn industry is still very white-male dominated, and the lack of these “watchdogs” have allowed for a disproportionate amount of racial stereotypes. Most of these “ethnic” films, with titles such as Black Power (Catalina Black Gold Series), Cholos in Charge (Catalina Baja Bay Series), and With Sex You Get Eggroll (Catalina Far East Features), are not geared towards the ethnic audiences they seem to be presenting, but to a white male audience that finds pleasure in the propagation of racial stereotypes.

In most of these “ethnic” films, the “ethnic” actors tend to keep within specific roles that are portrayed. In a short overview, black (African American) men tend to be portrayed as extremely well-endowed, oversexed machines (Fung 1995, pg 181), Latino men as quiet, well-endowed, masculine working class barrio boys, and Asian men as thin, smooth, submissive bottoms with smaller than average penis sizes.

This industry definition of “Asian” also seems to include only Asians of East Asian descent, namely those with Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean characteristics. Other Asian ethnic groups, such as South Asians, are rarely, if ever represented in the medium. In interracial films, in which white males interact with these “ethnic” males, these “ethnic” actors tend to keep within their stereotyped roles. However, in some cases, there are exceptions to the rule.

In a scene from Chi Chi LaRue’s 1998 film Fortune Nookie (Catalina Far East Features), lawyer Jacob Scott refrains from reading a will to a penniless Brandon Lee, a man who is also the beneficiary of his uncle’s estate, unless Lee paid for his services by fucking Scott with his 10-inch cock. Lee proceeds to be serviced by Scott, and then plows Scott in the ass. (Spencer, GVD).

To the average gay porn viewer, the scene described would be just one of the many common scenarios utilized by gay directors and writers for their productions. However, the dynamics change once the actual scene is seen on screen. Brandon Lee is Asian, while Jacob Scott is white. What viewers are seeing is a well-endowed masculine Asian male being the “top” in a film directed by one of the best porn directors in the business (Chi Chi LaRue), and released by one of the major gay film studios in the nation (Catalina Video). This scene seems to refute Asian stereotypes in the industry. However, while this film was touted as one where “an Asian gets to top a white man,” the old stereotypes still apply.

The late 80’s and 90’s led to the creation of the “power bottom”. This was a masculine individual who seemed to derive more pleasure from being the “bottom” in the course of anal intercourse than the “top”. Porn actors like Joey Stefano had carved out careers as superstars in the industry, alongside “power tops” like Jeff Stryker, as masculine men who enjoyed taking it up the ass. In film scenes, the “top” no longer was necessarily the dominant figure, but the “bottom”. (Burger 1995)

This phenomena can clearly be seen in the scene from Fortune Nookie. Even though Lee is the top in the sex scene, it is Scott who is clearly the dominant figure. As the lawyer who is withholding information from Lee, Scott maintains authority over Lee. Throughout the scene, Scott is constantly encouraging Lee with “dirty talk”, while Lee remains silent, albeit producing a few grunts and moans. Lee, like the highly-sexed Black and Latino stereotypes, has been reduced to a tool, dominated by his huge penis.

Lee finally gets to hear the contents of his uncle’s will, which entitles Lee to the Asian male bordello (brothel) owned by his uncle. The next sex scene is a pairing of white Paul Morgan and Niko Time, an Asian member of the bordello. Morgan, a paying white customer, “tops” a submissive Time. Time fits the stereotypical image of the Asian male, with his thin body, smooth skin, and penis size which does not compare to that of Morgan’s.

Following the unorthodox scene involving Lee and Scott, the movie reverts back to the old expectations of the white male viewer, with the stereotypical Asian male (Time) literally “servicing” the white masculine male (Morgan). Morgan dominates the scene as the paying customer, while Time performs his role, audibly responding to being dominated by Morgan with moans and squeals.

A third scene in the film involves no interracial dynamics, but instead pairs two male members of the bordello. Erik Tenaka and Tishiro Ho. They decide to “practice” their trade on one another, with a “well-endowed” Tenaka taking charge and “topping” Ho.

For “same-race” scenes, penis size serves as the primary factor in determining the dominator in the scene. However, a degree of “Asian-ess” also seems to be underlying this choice. Of the two, Ho has a more pronounced “Asian” accent, his dialogue mumbled and barely understandable. Tenaka takes control easily, giving orders to Ho, the visibly more “stereotypical” Asian. Throughout the sexual act, only moans and groans can be heard from both actors, a contrast from the earlier two scenes where the white male asserts his dominance through verbal commands and “dirty talk”.

These three scenes from Fortune Nookie represent the typical portrayals of Asians in domestic gay porn, and this has led to a social devaluation of Asians within the gay community, and a growing rise in “sexual racism”, in which sexual partners or members of a dating pool are singled out solely on their racial ethnicity. The premise of the film, an Asian male bordello, elicits an image of the traditional Japanese “geisha”, or prostitute. This affirms the image of the Asian male as a sexual creature to be used by white males. In the sexual hierarchy among gay males, Asians tend to find themselves at the bottom of the heap, unable to attain a similar level with the white males whose images proliferate as ideals in the media. Looking through personal ads and personal interests in chats such as Planetout and Gay.com, it is common to find statements such as:

No fat, no femmes, no Asians.

Not interested in arrogant, effeminate guys, asians or guys with attitude.

Seeking other similar goodlooking masculine guys, no fems, no asians please.

No GAMs (no Gay Asian Males) (Quan 2002)

Statements such as these tend to lump Asians automatically with undesirable traits such as “effeminacy”. While it is irrational to think that all Asians exhibit these traits, these are the stereotypes that are perpetuated in the popular consciousness of the gay community. Porn stars like Brandon Lee serve as “anomalies” in the gay porn industry, whose popularity can be attributed to their rarity and unique attributes, which in this case is his unusually large penis, which at 10-inches, is rare even for white males.

Only Asians who exhibit these “Brandon Lee” traits are viewed to be able to “top” in interracial relationships, and even then, dominance could tend to be held by the white male, as shown in the interracial scenes in Fortune Nookie. But this “sexual racism” does not always lead to a rejection of the stereotypical gay Asian. This “racism” also works the other way, creating unwanted attention and pre-defined expectations. “Rice Queen” is the term used to describe white males whose racial preference is Asian men. Even then, these “rice queens” seem to desire only the “exoticized” image of the Asian male, accepting only the image of a smooth, thin, passive and submissive male as a true gay Asian. (Wat, 2002) Most of these “rice queens” also tend to exoticize Asian culture in general, reflecting the old colonial stereotypes of the white “conqueror” in Asia.

Gay Asians also seem to reflect this “sexual racism” in the media and the community. As gay Asians, they are not receiving the same cultural capital as other white gay males. Case in point: Gay South Asians are completely omitted from most representations of Asians in the media. While people might tend to “generalize” gay portrayals in the media to apply to all gays, it is white male gays who are dominating the message, and Asians find little else besides sexuality to relate to the representation. Asians might find themselves confined within these pre-conceived notions about Asian men.

Like a self-fulfilling prophecy, most gay Asians might feel that the only way they can be accepted into the gay community is to embrace these stereotypes, and conform to the expectations of the white-male majority. Experiencing the same socialization as the rest of the gay community, gay Asian males might see themselves as “undesirables” and the white male as the ideal object of desire. This has led to the emergence of “potato queens”, Asian men who date white men exclusively.

Many Gay Asians also tend to distance themselves as much as possible from their ethnic backgrounds, creating “whitewashed” individuals who find no sense of relation with the rest of the Asian community. This has led to a lack of cohesion within the gay Asian community, which is a problem when groups try to rally support to help dispel such stereotypes.

One might hope that more stars like Brandon Lee would help dispel the myths surrounding Gay Asian men. However, Lee only produced seven films in his short 1997-98 career with Catalina Video, and few, if any, Asian stars in the industry have managed to fill that gap left behind by Lee when he left. The market for gay Asian porn has grown in the past decade, but most of these needs have been filled by studios that specialize in all-Asian productions filmed in Asian countries like Thailand. (Giant Robot, 2002) unfortunately, most of these all-Asian films are geared towards a white audience, capitulating on the “exoticness” of the models used and the locales.

Asian-themed pornographic films are still rare in the industry, with major domestic film studios like Catalina Video producing only ten films in from their Asian-specific branch Far East Features, with only eight of them original productions. Two of them are merely compilations of different scenes from the other films. As long as white males hold the reins in media and create a market for images of Asian males on their terms, there is little that can be done to remedy the propagation of stereotypes in gay porn.

A Great Article About Brandon Lee

My Search for Brandon Lee
By Claudine Ko

I'm standing under the low-ceilinged, fluorescent-light glare of the adult video library at Kim's Videos on Bleecker. They have a pretty hefty selection, big enough to merit a separate room. I imagine this to be an awkward experience even for regular patrons, though as a first-timer, I only feel mildly self-conscious being the only single porn patron at the moment. I can't wait to get that line from Jon Moritsugu's Terminal U.S.A. out of my head: "I'm the pervert in the back room." I scan the gay shelves: cops, guns, young guys, African American, Latino, but no cigar. No Asian porn. Finally, I approach the punk rock guy behind the main counter. "Do you have an Asian male porn section?" I ask sweetly. He's only slightly moved and promptly turns to his female co-worker and repeats my question. "Nope," she answers. "We've got lots of Asian women, but not one for men."

The dearth of Asian-boy booty is beginning to unnerve me. I've heard rumors from a "Pink-skin" source (one of those magazines where everyone is naked-pink) about a guy named "Brandon Lee" who was discovered while delivering Chinese food on a porn set. According to the magazine, the directors asked to see his egg roll, and it was so impressive they hired him to be a model immediately. I am determined to find this Brandon Lee.

I do a search for him on the Web. He's a smooth-skinned Asian boy who looks about 13. On another site, there's a picture of Brandon wearing only a demure expression and tighty-whiteys as he suggestively cradles his crotch in one hand. My first call goes out to Catalina Video, an L.A.-based production company which features Brandon Lee on their site (www.catalinavideo.com). I leave a message with the receptionist, who can only tell me that Brandon was discovered by one of their directors. Later, Tom Walker, their promotions manager, replies by letter: "Regretfully I cannot help you with your request. Brandon Lee has made approximately four videos for Catalina in 1997 and 1998. As of Spring 1998, he had dropped out of the adult business and we are no longer in contact with him."

Unsatisfied, I make more calls to L.A.-area adult video companies and find Oggi, a garrulous man who directs and produces for Exotic Videos, a gay-Asian-porn production company. Oggi tells me there is no such thing as a "pure" Asian porn star. "The biggest, pure Asian would be me, but I'm not an actor." Oggi, who tells me his father is a Hong Kong actor with a "household name," graduated from UCLA's film school and considers himself a "pioneer" of the Asian-specialized adult entertainment production company.

According to Oggi, Exotic started the Asian gay porno business more than a decade ago when interest in Asian men was marginal at best. "People think we're really skinny, scrawny people so they never feature us in porn or any form of entertainment," he says. "There are people who think Asians only have two inches. I can tell you some (non-Asian) Americans who have only one inch."

Exotic has produced 16 movies, mainly shot in Asia because it's easier to find models there. "They're all Thai, some are in school, some are performers, dancers," says Oggi, who's in his 40s. "I have testing agents over there; they line up the models together, see them in the nude, have them perform certain tasks, or have two performers perform certain acts so that we know they're not shy." Whereas the pool of models in Thailand is bigger, Oggi says that it's much harder to find domestic actors. "It would take me forever to find models here; that's one reason why I don't make them in the U.S.," says Oggi. "The ones I interview, sometimes they will chicken out. When it gets right down to production, they get scared. Asians aren't very brave, not like (non-Asian) American people who don't care. What if my friends or parents see it?" Even Oggi himself uses a fake name and hides his profession from his family.

Oggi tells me the only names he can think of are Jordan Young, who's half-Korean, and Brandon. Jordan supposedly lives with a transvestite named Chi Chi and Brandon seems to have disappeared. "I want to work with Brandon, but someone said he moved to Florida," Oggi tells me. "I would imagine some wealthy man hooked up with him and wanted to be his boyfriend and asked him to live with him in Florida."

In a quest to locate Jordan Young, I find Chi Chi LaRue. Chi Chi, as it turns out, is one of the biggest names in Hollywood's gay porn industry. He calls me from San Franciscohe no longer rooms with Jordan, who has closed off all contact and refuses to discuss his involvement with the industry. So I ask Chi Chi if he knows of any Asian male porn stars. "It's a question of what's a star?" says the veteran drag queen/porn director and producer. "In my mind, anyone who fucks or sucks on camera is a star."

"The popularity of Asian men is a given," he continues. "Whenever I use a white lead, they prefer someone that's a little softer, like a cute, nice Asian man. But it's still an untapped market in the adult industry."

In another fortunate twist of events, Chi Chi reveals that it was actually he who discovered Brandon at a Los Angeles bath house a few years ago. "He was just a patron playing around. I was like, ŒThat Asian man over there is fabulous, gorgeous. He's got a huge dick.' So I brought him to Catalina Video and they signed him to a contract." Brandon was only 18 when he got into the business. He's 20 or 21 now. He also wasn't in school, had a regular job, a steady boyfriend, and according to Chi Chi, was packing a 10-incher. Studies reveal that only one in every 10,000 men wield that much. Although Chi Chi didn't make any films with Brandon at first, he eventually directed him in the 72-minute hump-de-force, Fortune Nookie.

"Brandon Lee was very popular because he was very good looking and a fierce top. He could fuck really good," Chi Chi says.

I call Catalina again so I can watch young Brandon in action, and this time, I get Tom Walker on the phone. I ask him why there aren't more Asian leads. "Maybe because it is so new to them, some of these actors are scared and didn't want to do it again," offers Tom. "(Brandon Lee) was disillusioned and very young. It looks fun, but he decided it wasn't for him. That happens with a lot of the guys. It's really not a wise career choice. There's the reality of growing older and your looks going." Chi Chi agrees: "I always say: Don't quit your job to be a porn star, that money goes quickly."

"Now it's very hard to find Asian models," Chi Chi says. "They're very private. I think maybe they're worried, maybe their culture doesn't condone this kind of thing, maybe Asian guilt, like Catholic guilt. That's why they'll come and do one or two films and they'll disappear."

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO BRANDON LEE?
Brandon actually made seven movies for Catalina Videos during his short-lived career, from 1997 to 1998: Asian Persuasion I and II, Harley's Crew, Big Guns II, Fortune Nookie, Throat Spankers, and Dial S for Sex.

In his debut in Asian Persuasion, your typical wham-bam and slam-video, Brandon plays a charming yet philandering real estate agent. Brandon is no bear (big, overweight, hairy man). He reminds me of my first college crush: a Chinese-American pretty boy with a penchant for the Smiths, bleached hair, and as I learned later to my dismay, other boys. In Chi Chi's film, Fortune Nookie, Brandon is manipulated by a shady lawyer into giving sexual services for litigation fees. But Brandon blows the notion of the submissive Asian out of the water. He never takes it in the ass, let alone in his face. He's a top through and through.

So what really happened to the 10-inch egg roll? Drug addiction? Prostitution? Downward spiral? "Brandon's happy," says Chi Chi. "He's in a nice, happy relationship and they live in Miami. It's funny how people think they quit the business because they found a rich sugar daddy, but it's not true."
